Janie Sabin serves as Director of Human Resources and Licensing for Engage Young Adult Transitions, bringing 12 years of experience in human resources, behavioral health licensing, regulatory compliance, and organizational leadership. Her background also includes eight years of prior experience as a paralegal in contract law, family law, adoptions, and risk management, providing a strong legal and regulatory foundation for her work in behavioral healthcare.
At Engage, Janie oversees the organization’s human resources, behavioral health licensing, regulatory compliance, and accreditation readiness. Her responsibilities include hiring and employee relations, performance management, background screening, HRIS and learning management systems, licensing renewals, regulatory monitoring, incident reporting, and regulatory follow-up. As a member of the executive team, she works closely with clinical, nursing, and program leadership to translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, systems, training, and expectations for staff.
A significant part of Janie’s expertise is behavioral health licensing and healthcare regulatory compliance. She monitors changes to Utah behavioral health requirements, works directly with licensing officials, evaluates regulatory reporting requirements, prepares documentation, and coordinates responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, findings, and corrective action requirements. When regulations or standards change, she helps develop and modify policies, procedures, training, and operational systems so regulatory expectations become part of everyday practice.
Janie also has extensive experience with Joint Commission accreditation and survey readiness for behavioral health organizations. She has participated in multiple successful accreditation surveys and manages preparation and follow-up activities including readiness checklists, HR documentation, leadership preparation, surveyor support, clarification and interpretation of standards, corrective action, and post-survey follow-up.
Her approach to accreditation and compliance is focused on building sustainable systems rather than simply preparing for an inspection. She works to create processes that support employee accountability, regulatory compliance, risk management, client safety, and consistent, high-quality care long after a survey is complete.
Throughout her career, Janie has taken particular pride in building strong human resources systems. She co-developed her organization’s HRIS and has developed hiring, employee separation, performance management, and learning management systems designed to translate organizational and regulatory expectations into consistent employee practices.
She also enjoys helping develop future leaders through direct support, accountability, mentorship, and example. Her leadership style is direct, approachable, detail-oriented, and supportive, with a willingness to have difficult conversations when necessary.
Janie holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Southern Utah University and is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). She is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Outside of work, Janie enjoys reading, camping, puzzles, and spending time with her husband and two teenage sons.
