Engage is a good fit for young adults who want to build more independence and stability while staying connected to strong clinical and daily support. Many have anxiety, depression, executive functioning challenges, social struggles, or neurodivergent needs. Engage works best when a young adult can be safe in the community and is willing to participate at some level, even if motivation starts low.
Yes, when it is clinically appropriate, young adults can enroll directly from home. Our model is designed to provide strong clinical oversight while the young adult remains in the community. We confirm that safety and stability are in place so the transition work can start right away.
Our minimum length of stay is six months. The average length of stay is around nine months. Length depends on progress in connection, independence, and health and what the young adult is working toward next.
Transition means building a life that works outside the family home with real-world responsibilities and support. We focus on connection, independence, and health, and we practice those skills in daily life, not just in sessions. The goal is to leave Engage with routines, relationships, and follow-through that hold up in the real world.
We measure progress in connection, independence, and health. Your case manager, primary therapist, and Engage’s treatment team track how you are doing over time, including your follow-through, relationships, use of support, daily functioning, and ability to take on more responsibility.
Therapy at Engage is part of your real life, not separate from it. You meet with your primary therapist for individual therapy, family therapy is offered based on your clinical needs, and you have the opportunity to participate in up to four group therapy sessions each week. There are also opportunities to check in with your therapist between sessions when needed. Because we do not believe one size fits all, the frequency of therapy is tailored to your clinical needs. Since we are community-based, your treatment team can help you work through challenges as they show up in daily life, not just talk about them after the fact.
Yes. Psychiatric support is integrated into care at Engage, and our psychiatric nurse practitioner is on site at Engage 2 to 4 times per month based on clinical need.
You begin with an Engage schedule that focuses on connection, independence, and health. This gives you structure, consistency, and support as you settle in and begin building momentum. As soon as you are ready, your schedule becomes more individualized based on your needs, goals, and pace. Life coaches are available throughout the day to help you with follow-through and problem-solving as issues come up.
Yes. You start with an Engage schedule that gives you structure around connection, independence, and health. As you are ready to take on more ownership of your time, your schedule becomes more individualized based on your goals, needs, and pace.
You have the opportunity to shop for yourself and cook with the support of our life coaches. You receive your own Engage debit card for groceries and personal food purchases. We also have weekly cooking classes, and you have access to a licensed nutritionist to help you build healthier routines around eating, budgeting, and taking care of yourself.
Yes. Young adults at Engage have their own private bedroom. Most of our young adults also have their own private bathroom. Having your own space gives you room to recharge, settle in, and have a place that feels like your own while you are building your adult life.
You have real independence from day one. Your ability to move freely is not limited, and on your first day you can check out Cedar City by walking to local coffee shops and other spots in the community. Engage is built around structured autonomy, which means you are living in the real world while still having strong support around you. The goal is to help you build the routines, follow-through, and consistency to manage your life with greater confidence and independence.
Not always. Many young adults do school, work, or both, but the plan is based on readiness and what makes sense clinically. If school or work is not the right next step yet, we build other structured commitments that support momentum and growth.
Yes. Engage helps young adults find jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities as part of building adult momentum and readiness.
All young adults participate in career and vocational testing, which helps identify strengths, interests, and areas of fit. Our job placement specialist is well connected in the Cedar City community and helps young adults find local job, internship, and volunteer opportunities, which can all be strong steps toward employment. Our case managers also provide vocational support through planning, accountability, and follow-through so young adults have help moving from interest into action.
Yes. Engage helps you with budgeting as part of building real independence.
You have opportunities to practice budgeting in daily life, including groceries, personal spending, planning ahead, and making choices with your money. We also offer life skills classes that help build budgeting skills, and our life coaches and case managers help you build awareness, create structure, and improve follow-through so budgeting becomes part of managing adult life, not just something talked about in theory.
Fun is an important part of life at Engage, and we are intentional about it. It is baked into our culture because one of the best ways to build connection and feel part of the community is by having fun together. Our staff like to have fun with young adults, and that shows up through community events, hanging out together, getting out into Cedar City, fitness, the outdoors, shared interests, and playing games, including video games. We are also thoughtful about gaming and technology, since they can become a way to isolate, so we work to help fun stay connected, social, and part of a healthy adult life.
Yes. We support young adults dating, building friendships, and forming healthy connections in the Cedar City community as part of adult life.
We do ask young adults not to pursue dating relationships with other participants at Engage so the community can stay focused, healthy, and supportive for everyone.
We do not treat phone and tech use as one-size-fits-all. We see technology as a tool for independence rather than a tool for avoidance. We look at how your phone, gaming, social media, and other technology are affecting your connection, independence, and health. If tech is getting in the way, we work with you to build more structure, better boundaries, and healthier use over time.
You can get around Cedar City in a few different ways. Many spots are walkable from Engage, including coffee shops, stores, and parts of the university area. Depending on your situation, you may also use your own car. One of the reasons our life coaches are there is to support you with transportation as you move through daily life.
Yes. Connection is a big part of life at Engage, and we value your relationships with family and friends and support them. Travel and visitors can absolutely be part of your time here. What most often gets in the way is your personal schedule and responsibilities, especially school and work, as you learn how to balance relationships, autonomy, and follow-through.
That depends on what you are working toward. Some young adults return to the area they were living in before Engage and live more independently, with varying degrees of financial and ancillary support from their parents. Others return to their original college or continue their education through Southern Utah University and stay in the area. Some fall in love with what Cedar City has to offer, including the local university, trade college, the pace of the community, and access to the outdoors, and choose to build their adult life here.
